Nedney Out, 49ers Sign Replacement Kicker Andrus

It may come as a surprise to the 49ers Faithful, but apparently Joe Nedney kicked Sunday's game-winning field goal against the Rams with an injury. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Nedney sprained his non-kicking leg on the opening kickoff in the Rams game.

It may also come as a surprise to the 49ers Faithful that the 49ers have sidelined Nedney for one week and already have a replacement signed.

Ladies and gentlemen, WPSD in Kentucky reports your one-week sub for Nedney this weekend when the 49ers face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Candlestick is last season's sub kicker, Shane Andrus.

Andrus was a substitute placekicker for the 49ers last season when Nedney was injured in Week 17. Andrus made four successful extra point attempts and did not attempt any field goals in the 49ers' 28-6 win over the Rams that closed out the 2009 regular season.

Andrus has attempted -- and missed -- his one career NFL field goal attempt in October 2009 when he was a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. Otherwise, Andrus has been with (and was quickly waived by) the Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants, with no regular season games logged with those teams.

Nedney devotees should not worry that their beloved San Jose State alum will miss extended time for the 49ers. Nedney is expected to miss only the one game.
