The attorney for the nightclub hostess first linked to Tiger Woods abruptly canceled a press conference at which she had planned to make a statement regarding the alleged affair.

Gloria Allred, attorney for Rachel Uchitel, called off the event, citing "unforeseen circumstances." The National Enquirer had reported Uchitel and the superstar golfer were having an affair jjust days before Woods crashed his SUV outside his Florida mansion in a bizarre, wee-hours episode.

Uchitel earlier this week vehemently denied she had ever had an affair with Woods.

The development came a day after Woods apologized to his family for letting them down and said he regretted those "transgressions with all of my heart."

In a statement released on his website Wednesday, Woods offered a "profound apology" for his actions but stopped short of specifying what those behaviors were.

"I have not been true to my values and the behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family," Woods wrote. "Those feelings should be shared by us alone."

The mea culpa came after an early morning car crash last Friday threw a searing spotlight onto his personal life and reports began to surface that the married golfer known for his squeaky-clean image was stepping out on his wife of five years, Elin Nordegren.

A 24-year-old Los Angeles cocktail waitress told Usmagazine.com Wednesday that she and Woods had a 31-month-long tryst and that she met the athlete at a nightclub in Las Vegas two months before his wife gave birth to their first child.

The woman, Jaimee Grubbs, claims to have hundreds of text message exchanges from Woods. The magazine said it obtained a message left by Woods on Grubbs' voice mail urging her to remove her name from her mailbox greeting.

"Hey, it's Tiger," says the voice on the recording, released by US. "I need you to do me a huge favor. Can you please take your name off your phone? My wife went through my phone and may be calling you. So if you can, please take your name off that. Just have it as a number of the voicemail. You got to do this for me. Huge. Quickly. Bye."

There has been no confirmation of the US story or whether the voice on the recording is actually Woods.

Meanwhile, a marketing manager at a Las Vegas nightclub, Kalika Moquin, neither confirmed or denied having a romantic relationship with Woods when asked by Life & Style magazine.

Uchitel, the 34-year-old Manhattan club promoter, was the first "other woman" to be linked to Woods. Earlier this week, she  vehemently denied having an affair with the golfing champ after two sources told The National Enquirer she was his mistress.

While most of Woods' associates and sponsors have stayed silent on the matter, the golfer who introduced Nordegren to Woods said he owed her an apology.

"We probably thought he was a better guy than he is,”  Jesper Parnevik, of Sweden, told The Golf Channel. Nordegren was the nanny for Parneviks.

“I would probably need to apologize to her and hope she uses a driver next time instead of a 3-iron,” Parnevik said referring to rumors that Woods' wife may have chased him with a golf club. "It’s a private thing, of course. But when you are the guy he is — the world’s best athlete — you should think more before you do stuff ... and maybe not ‘Just do it,’ like Nike says.”
