MJ Acosta Joins NBC 7 in San Diego

Sports journalist MJ Acosta has joined the team at NBC 7, the NBC owned and operated television station in San Diego.

Acosta will be the sports anchor for NBC 7 News at 6 and NBC 7 News at 11 on weekday evenings. She will also be a significant contributor to NBC 7’s Sportswrap franchise both online and on air.

“I am very excited to join NBC 7 and look forward to diving in and sharing my passion for sports and journalism with my new community,” said Acosta.

As the daughter of a professional basketball player, Acosta grew up in a sports-focused household. Since then, she has fulfilled her inherent interest in sports by working as a sports anchor at Generation Next Youth Sports Network in Miami from 2011 to 2013 and most recently, as a sports, entertainment and breaking news reporter and anchor for the ABC affiliate in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale area.

When she isn’t covering the local teams, Acosta embraces her athletic nature by running a charity 5K race, pushing through obstacles at events like the Spartan Race, or exploring her adventurous side by sky diving. She also has a passion for philanthropy.

She has worked with several organizations including the “Wounded Warrior Project”, “Best Buddies” and Susan G. Komen’s “Race For The Cure."

Acosta earned a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Barry University and is a former Miami Dolphins Cheerleader.

NBC 7 is proud to have MJ on the team and is looking forward to San Diego getting to know the newest NBC 7 team member.

“I’m thrilled that MJ is part of the NBC 7 news team and family,” said Greg Dawson, NBC 7’s Vice President of News. “MJ’s vast experience as a sports journalist, coupled with her avid passion and dedication to the world of sports, will help us deliver the best sports coverage that San Diegans want.”

Acosta will make her on-air debut this Sunday evening. Get to know her by following her on Twitter or on Facebook.
