A local boy with his sights on the Little League World Series has a remarkable connection to an All-Star Major Leaguer.
An interesting fact about the team is that Padres All-Star Adrian Gonzalez and his brother Edgar, who also plays for the Friars, used to live in the house that one of the team's players, Andy Rios, lives in now. The Gonzalez's father built the batting cage behind the house that the Little Leaguers now all practice in.
Park View is set to play a team from Arizona Monday night. In two games, the Chula Vista team has hit 16 home runs in just seven innings. The games have been called short because of the mercy rule. On Friday, they beat Utah 27-1. Sunday they beat Hawaii 15-2.
"This is their dream, both for the kids and the parents, to advance in the Little League series," said parent Andy Rios.
The last team from the area to make it to the regionals was South Bay Little League in 1982, said Rios.
