La Costa Canyon guard joins the Aztecs

The Aztecs basketball program has another Fisher in the mix.

Patrick Fisher (no relation to former head coach Steve) is coming home. The former La Costa Canyon High School star is officially on the San Diego State roster after announcing he will transfer from Winthrop. Per NCAA transfer rules he will sit out this year and be eligible to play for the 2018-19 season.

As a freshman at Winthrop, Fisher played in three games before being forced out of the lineup with mononucleosis. As a senior at LCCHS the 6-foot-4 guard helped the Mavericks win the 2014 CIF San Diego Section title. He then transferred to Vermont Academy, a college preparatory school in Rockingham, VT, where he was an all-league selection.

Under new head coach Brian Dutcher the Aztecs are trying to return to the NCAA Tournament after missing out the last two seasons.
