Johnson Adding New Member to Pit Crew

Four-time defending NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson and his wife are expecting their first child.

Chandra Johnson is due in July, according to the driver's spokesman. No other details have been announced.

Johnson won his fourth consecutive Cup title in November. He was the Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year in November, becoming the first race car driver to win it in its 78-year history.

Jimmie Johnson, a native of Crest, returned home on on Dec. 1 bearing gifts -- thousands and thousands of dollars worth. Johnson stopped at Crest Elementary School where, 25 years ago, he was a student dreaming of racing and telling everyone he could about it.

The NASCAR driver, who mostly grew up in El Cajon, talked about his memories of the school and changes since he attended. He remembered a lot of skateboarding, bike riding, making soap in one of his classes and working in the cafeteria.
