Irons celebrates as he is crowned ASP World Champion at the Hilton Hawaiian Resort in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA on December 20, 2002. Irons won four of the 12 events on the ASP World Championship Tour that year: The Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach, Australia in April; the Billabong Pro at Teahupoo in Tahiti in May, the Billabong Pro in Mundaka, Spain in September and the Xbox Pipeline Masters in Hawaii last week. Irons was also crowned as the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing champion after accumulating the most points in a trio of world championship events in Hawaii in November and December.
