Hit Parade at Petco

For Padres hitters June gloom is in the rear view mirror...at least for a day. After a dreadful month at the plate the Friars bats came alive on the first day of July. Every player in the starting line-up got at least one hit in their 8-2 win including starting pitcher Ian Kennedy (6-9), who threw six innings of one run ball for the win.

The first of the season high 16-hits came early. Seth Smith led-off the game with a home run, his team leading 9th of the season. Carlos Quentin also went yard. His 5th of 2014 was a two-run shot in the 7th that gave the Padres a 5-1 lead.

Cincinnati starter Mike Leake (6-7) took the loss. The San Diego native was pulled in the 6th inning after giving up 11-hits and 3 earned runs.

The 8-2 win was the Padres 3rd victory in a row. They go for the series sweep against the Reds Wednesday afternoon at Petco Park.
