Hard Luck Loser

When starter Eric Stults (6-15) left the game Sunday afternoon at Petco the Padres trailed 2-1. It was another quality start , but the result was another loss...his 15th of the season. The Dodgers piled on four runs in the eighth and beat the Padres 7-1 to avoid the sweep.

Despite his poor record, Manager Bud Black was quick to praise his hard luck lefty, "Really he deserved a better fate, six innings, two runs, I'll take that every time." In the month of August Stults' ERA is a very respectable 2.43. He gave up two or less earned runs in four of his six August starts, yet only managed a 3-3 record.

Even with Sunday's loss the Padres have still managed to win their last six series at Petco Park and finished the month with a 16-11 record. The Friars start a four game series with the Diamondbacks Monday afternoon.
