Padres and Major League Baseball fans are still fuming that Tony Gwynn was not mentioned during the 2014 All-Star Game.
Gwynn died June 16 after a battle with salivary gland cancer. He was only 54.
Fox and Major League Baseball released a joint statement in response to the criticism.
The statement says in part:
"The Baseball family has sadly lost a number of people this year--including Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner, Frank Cashen, and former All-Stars Jerry Coleman, Jim Fregosi and Don Zimmer--and did not want to slight anyone by singling out one individual."
Gwynn spent his entire 20-year career with the San Diego Padres from 1982-2001.
He finished with a .338 career batting average and 3,141 hits.
The 15-time All-Star coached baseball at his alma mater, San Diego State, after he retired from MLB.
