Dominique Love was one of five Cal Poly San Luis Obispo football players arrested in a robbery investigation

Five Cal Poly San Luis Obispo football players, including a former La Jolla high school football standout, appeared in court Monday on charges they tried to rob a fraternity.

Dominique Love, 19, was one of five players arrested for the Aug. 10 robbery in a plot that may include drugs, officials said.

On Monday, the men appeared in court for their arraignment. The judge increased bail for defendant Cameron Akins from $60,000 to $110,000. [[272685961,C]]

Prosecutors say that Akins brandished an unloaded gun and demanded money and drugs during the Aug. 10 incident at the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity house.

Jake Anthony Brito, 18; Kristaan Sterling Ivory, 20 and Cortland Josiah Fort, 20 were also charged. [[272764611,C]]

The charges include conspiracy to commit residential robbery, attempted residential robbery, attempted burglary, and false imprisonment, as well as several enhancements for using a firearm during a crime. [[272774071,R]]

The Tribune newspaper reports that the defendants did not enter pleas Monday and a second arraignment was scheduled for Sept. 15.

Delta Sigma Phi fraternity member Forrest Baker, 20, walked a reporter for the Tribune through the crime scene. Baker said grabbed the defendant’s arm and then jumped on his back and tackled him down the stairs. [[272675871,C]]

Love was star player at The Bishop's School in La Jolla. A football and basketball standout, Love was the starting defensive back and wide receiver two years ago.

During his senior year in high school, he recorded 58 catches for over 1300 yards, according to Cal Poly's football website.

His mother lives in Oceanside and told NBC 7 she was “saddened” after learning of her son's arrest.
