No Witness ID'd Ex-Bishop School Football Standout Detective Testifies

Dominique Love faces more than one felony count even though its unclear if he had a role in the robbery attempt.

A former La Jolla high school football star accused of attempted armed robbery at a Cal-Poly fraternity listened Monday as a police detective testified witnesses did not positively identify him.

Dominique Love appeared in court for a pretrial hearing alongside other Cal-Poly football players were allegedly involved in the August incident.

Investigators allege two of the players went to a fraternity house with a gun and demanded marijuana and other drugs.

Detective Eric Vitale testified Monday that the players left a party with the intent to commit the robbery according to a report in The Tribune.

Under cross-examination, the detective said no witnesses positively identified the defendants as having taken part in the crime, the paper reported.

Love was star player at The Bishop's School in La Jolla. A football and basketball standout, Love was the starting defensive back and wide receiver two years ago.

During his senior year in high school, he recorded 58 catches for over 1300 yards, according to Cal Poly's football website.

His mother lives in Oceanside and told NBC 7 she was β€œsaddened” after learning of her son's arrest.
