Even Without the Padres, San Diego Will Be Well Represented in the MLB Playoffs

The Padres aren’t going to the postseason this year, but San Diegans still have a lot to cheer for in October. Here’s a list of guys either from San Diego, or who went to college in America’s Finest City that are heading to the Major League Baseball Playoffs.

CHICAGO CUBS:

-Trevor Cahill: The right-handed relief pitcher was born in Oceanside and graduated from Vista High School. In 2006, the 28-year old was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the second round (66th pick).

-Kris Bryant: The 24-year old third baseman was born in Las Vegas, Nevada before playing baseball for the University of San Diego Toreros. Bryant was drafted by the Cubs with the second overall pick in the 2013 draft.

NEW YORK METS:

-Addison Reed: Reed was born in Montclair, CA but went to San Diego State University. The 27-year old relief pitcher was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the third round of the 2010 draft (95th pick). Reed leads MLB in holds this season.

LOS ANGELES DODGERS:

-Adrian Gonzalez: The 34-year old first baseman was born in San Diego and graduated from Eastlake High School in Chula Vista. He was drafted number one overall by the Florida Marlins in the 2000 draft.

WASHINGTON NATIONALS:

-Sammy Solis: The left handed relief pitcher was born in Minneapolis, MN but attended the University of San Diego. The 28-year old was drafted out of USD by the Nationals in the 2010 draft in the second round (51st overall).

-Stephen Strasburg: The 28-year old right handed starting pitcher was born in San Diego and went to West Hills High. Strasburg went to San Diego State University and was the number one overall pick in the 2009 draft.

BALTIMORE ORIOLES:

-Adam Jones: The 31-year old outfielder was born in San Diego and went to Morse High School. Jones was drafted in the first round of the 2003 draft by the Seattle Mariners with the 37th pick.

TEXAS RANGERS:

-Matt Bush: The right handed relief pitcher was born in San Diego and went to Mission Bay High School. The San Diego Padres selected him with the number one overall pick in the 2004 draft.

-A.J. Griffin: Griffin is a 28-year old right handed pitcher born in El Cajon. He attended Grossmont High School and went on to pitch at the University of San Diego. The Oakland Athletics drafted him in the 13th round of the 2010 draft.

-Cole Hamels: The 32-year old lefty was born in San Diego and went to Rancho Bernardo High School. The Philadelphia Phillies drafted him with the 17th overall pick in the 2002 draft.
