Evan Lysacek to Compete for First Time Since Vancouver

Olympic champion figure skater Evan Lysacek will return to major competition for the first time since Vancouver at Skate America.

Lysacek drew one Grand Prix when assignments were handed out Monday.

The men's figure skating Olympic gold medalist spent his time between Olympics competing in "Dancing with the Stars" and declaring a truce with longtime figureskating opponent Johnny Weir.

Lysacek will attempt to defend his Olympic title at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games next February in Sochi, Russia.

On the way to Sochi, he'll face reigning world silver medalist -- and training mate -- Denis Ten at the Skate America event, Oct. 18-20 in Detroit.

Evgeni Plushenko, the silver medalist in Vancouver, also was assigned to one Grand Prix, the Rustelecom Cup in Moscow.

Kim Yu-na will compete in the Grand Prix circuit for the first time since she won gold in Vancouver. Kim drew Skate Canada and Trophee Bompard in Paris. She won the world title in commanding fashion in March after taking most of the last two years off.

The top six skaters in each discipline will qualify for the Grand Prix Final.
