Prosecutors said Monday they had filed battery charges against Matt Bush, a former top draft pick, for his alleged role in an incident on Feb. 4.

According to District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis' office, Bush, 23, assaulted Granite Hills students during a lacrosse practice.

Bush faces four misdemeanor battery charges in connection with the case. He faces up to four years in jail as well as a $2,000 fine, according to prosecutors. He is scheduled to be arraigned April 28.

Bush received a club record $3.15 million signing bonus in 2004. Shortly after he signed it, the Mission Bay High School grad was arrested after an incident at a nightclub in Arizona. He was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays on Feb. 11.
