City College Athletics Department to Face Sanctions for Playing Violations

San Diego City College’s Athletics Department will face sanctions, including a forfeiture of games, one year of probation for the department and men’s volleyball program.

The sanctions follow an external review by the school and district that found during the spring 2014 semester, two members of the men’s volleyball team played in 18 games and another member of the women’s softball team participated in four games while being ineligible to play.

As a result, according to a San Diego Community College District news release, those games will be forfeited and the volleyball program will be placed on a one-year probation.

San Diego City College Interim President Lynn Neault said in the news release that the school has improved the athletic department management in response to the findings.
