Chargers WR Keenan Allen wins Rookie of the Week award

Rookie Keenan Allen has been impressive since stepping in for an injured Malcom Floyd, who went down in the second game of the season with a neck strain.

Allen, a former Cal Bear, has racked up 23 receptions for 332 yards in the five games he's played this season, including nine catches for 107 yards in the win over the Colts Sunday.

He's getting noticed.

Allen was named the Pepsi Next NFL Rookie of the Week Friday, joining teammates Philip Rivers and Nick Novak in the recognition column for the Chargers this season. Rivers has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week twice; Novak, AFC Special Teams Player of the Week last week.

Allen, a third-round draft pick by new general manager Tom Telesco, has been especially impressive in earning Rivers' trust.

"It comes from practice," Allen said. "We do it in practice. When you get into the game, it's just there."
