Chargers Safety Arrested

Kevin Ellison arrested in Redondo Beach

Chargers Safety Kevin Ellison was arrested Monday afternoon when police say they found 100 painkillers in his car.

Ellison was stopped for speeding in a school zone, according to Redondo Beach police.

Officers said a search of his vehicle turned up 100 tablets of Vicodin. Ellison did not have a prescription, police said.

He was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance and booked at Redondo Beach jail.  He was later released on $10,000 bail.  A court date has been set for July 7.

Ellison was a rookie safety with the Chargers last season, a sixth round draft pick out of USC.  He became a solid contributor in the Chargers secondary.  He worked his way into the starting line up and finished with 52 tackles.

He figures to face some tough competiton for playing time from fourth round draft pick Darrell Stuckey.
