Chargers Lose A “Glue Guy”

LB Andrew Gachkar signs with Dallas

Every NFL team needs stars at key positions like quarterback. However, they also need what are sometimes known as "glue guys," the ones who aren't Pro Bowlers but do the little things that lead to wins.

For the Chargers, linebacker Andrew Gachkar had become one of those "glue guys." The 2011 7th-round pick started off as a special teams contributor, became a special teams starter, then one of the best special teams players in the game and a key reserve linebacker who provided quality depth at a key position, even starting five games last season.

All his effort has made him a millionaire.

Gachkar has agreed to a 2-year, $5.5 million contract with the Cowboys. Last year he had 49 tackles, 1.0 sack, a pass defense and even scored his first NFL touchdown when he returned a fumble for a score in a win against the Rams.

So far this off-season the Chargers have lost four linebackers (Gachkar, Dwight Freeney, Jarret Johnson and Reggie Walker) but signed none. With all the speculation that they are looking in to signing Greg Hardy, could the Bolts be switching to a 4-3 base defense?
