In 1965, 73 percent of voters approved the construction of a new Chargers stadium in Mission Valley for $27 million.

The Chargers moved into the new stadium 1967 with a capacity of 52,000. In 1984, the Chargers added 8100 seats. In 1997, the stadium underwent another renovation to add 11,500 seats. The stadium now holds more than 70,000 seats. In comparison, the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, can hold up to 100,000 people.
