The Chargers have only retired two jersey numbers #14 Dan Fouts and #19 Lance Alworth.

Fouts, a third round draft pick in 1973, played for the Chargers from 1973 to 1987. He was the third NFL player to pass for more than 40,000 yards. In his 15 seasons with the NFL, Fouts had 254 passing touchdowns and 13 TD's rushing. Fouts was inducted in the NFL Hall of Fame in 1993.

Alworth was the first AFL player to be elected to the NFL Hall of Fame in 1978. Nicknamed "Bambi" by his teammates, Alworth was known on the football field for his smooth, graceful, and spectacular moves. In his 11 pro seasons, he caught 542 receptions for 10,266 yards and 85 touchdowns.
