Cashner is Money Again

Andrew Cashner (2-1), fresh of his one-hit complete game shutout Friday, pitched into the eighth inning Wednesday night to get the win.

Like Friday, Cashner made very few mistakes. One was a 408-foot solo home run off the bat of Justin Morneau in the second inning. However, the Padres evened up the score in the bottom of the second thanks to a Tommy Medica blast deep into the left field seats.

The game stayed tied until the 5th inning, then similar to Monday night, the Padres got a break on a mistake between pitcher and catcher. This time a passed ball by catcher Jordan Pacheco allowed a run to score. Alexi Amarista trotted in from third to give the Padres a one run advantage. Two pitches later Chris Denorfia doubled to right scoring Everth Cabrera, extending the lead to 3-1. It was one of two RBI's for Denorfia on the evening.

The Rockies made things interesting in the sixth. After three straight singles the bases were loaded, but Cashner got Pacheco to ground into an inning ending double play.

Houston Street pitched the 9th for his 5th save, securing a 4-2 victory for the Friars. Cashner is now 2-1 on the season with a 1.27 ERA. The teams conclude the four game series Thursday afternoon at Petco Park. Ian Kennedy (1-2 / 4.24 ERA ) gets the start for the Padres.
