Beckham Seen in LA – On the Soccer Pitch, No Less

Galaxy improve league-best record to 14-5-5

It's a bird. No, it's a plane. Wait, it is actually David Beckham!?

For the first time in the 2010 Major League Soccer season, David Beckham played for the Los Angeles Galaxy subbing in for the final 20 minutes of a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Crew at The Home Depot Center.

Beckham entered the game in the 70th minute, with the Galaxy leading 3-0 on goals by Edson Buddle, Dema Kovalenko and Jovan Kirovski.

Becks got into the action quickly by bending a shot in the 73rd minute that was handled easily by Crew goalkeeper William Hesmer. One minute later, Beckham was issued a yellow card for a reckless foul on Columbus midfielder Emmanuel Ekpo.

Beckham had been sidelined because of a torn left Achilles tendon suffered March 14 while playing for Italy's AC Milan. He underwent surgery March 16, began rehabilitation from the injury in April in Southern California, started practicing with the Galaxy Aug. 11 and was activated off the disabled list Thursday.

Beckham's line: 20 minutes, 1 shot, 1 yellow card and no injuries!

The victory improved the Galaxy's record to a league-best 14-5-5.
