Aztecs Return Home, Beat Utah St.

SDSU withstands an offensive barrage from Aggies guard to win at Viejas Arena

When the night began the San Diego State men's basketball team had not trailed at home against a Mountain West opponent in 2019. They'd played four Conference games and not once ... not even 2-0 ... had they been behind.

That streak ended against Utah State but their MWC home winning streak remained intact with a 68-63 win over the Aggies.

USU got a monster game from guard Sam Merrill, who scored 35 points in 35 minutes before fouling out. The problem for the Aggies was pretty much everyone else. Merrill was their only player to reach double digits in points.

The Aztecs opted for a more equitable offensive performance putting four players in double figures. Guard Devin Watson led the way with 23 points, followed by forward Jalen McDaniels with 16. Fellow forward Nathan Mensah turned in his best night as a collegian. The freshman got his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

SDSU improves to 14-9 and 6-4 in the Mountain West. They head to Colorado State on Tuesday night.
