Aztecs Lose 2nd Straight

After 6-0 start San Diego State drops another home game

In the span of eight days the San Diego State football program went from frontrunner to earn a spot in a New Year’s Six bowl game to very likely not even getting a spot in its own conference championship game.

The Aztecs followed last week’s 31-14 loss to Boise State with a 27-3 blowout loss to Fresno State on Saturday night at SDCCU Stadium. The loss puts SDSU two games behind the Bulldogs in the Mountain West Conference’s West division but since FSU has the head-to-head win it means they’ll have to lose at least three of their last five games to give the Aztecs any shot at reaching the MWC title game.

For the second straight week the Aztecs offensive line was ineffective. All-world running back Rashaad Penny didn’t find much running room, finishing with 69 rushing yards, and San Diego State quarterbacks Christian Chapman and Ryan Agnew were sacked a total of four times.

The Bulldogs running back pair of Josh Hokit and Jordan Mims did what Penny usually does. Hokit ran for three touchdowns and Mims rolled up 112 yards.

The Aztecs fall to 6-2 after their 6-0 start. Next week the head to Honolulu to face Hawaii.
