Aztecs Join San Diego Pro Soccer Team

SoCal Surf adding three SDSU standouts for 2017

While San Diego waits for November’s special election to see if we will get a new MLS stadium (and likely an expansion team to play in it) there is high-quality soccer to watch in America’s Finest City this summer.

The SoCal Surf enters the USLPDL (United Soccer Leagues Premiere Development League) this season. The USLPDL is a feeder league for Major League Soccer that produced eight players drafted in the 1st round of the2016 MLS SuperDraft. This year the Surf will have a trio of San Diego State Aztecs on the roster.

SDSU went to the NCAA Tournament last year and three of their starters will spend the summer getting a taste of pro soccer. Goalkeeper Adam Allmaras, defender Kyle Adams and midfielder Pablo Pelaez all agreed to play for the Surf in 2017.

As a junior Allmaras, a La Costa Canyon HS alum, started all 19 games and recorded 11 shutouts. Adams just completed his sophomore year and also made all 19 starts on the Mesa and led the Aztecs in minutes played. Pelaez, a Mount Everest Academy graduate, was a freshman last year and finished third on the team in points (2 goals, 3 assists).

The Surf open the season on May 6 at 6:00 p.m. at home against the San Diego Zest. Surf home games are played at Army Navy Sports Complex in Carlsbad.
