San Diego State’s road to the Final Four will start in Arizona.
The Aztecs are a No. 2 seed and will travel to Tuscon to face Northern Colorado on Thursday in their first game of the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament, the selection committee announced Sunday.
The Mountain West Conference Tournament champs will play out of the West Region, which features Duke as its top seed and No. 3 Connecticut and No. 4 Texas among the top outliers.
The region's other teams are Arizona, Bucknell, Cincinnati, Hampton, Michigan, Memphis, Missouri, Oakland, Penn St., Temple and Tennessee.
Should the Aztecs (32-2) advance to the next round, they would face the winner of Temple and Penn St.
San Diego State was one of three Mountain West teams to make the tournament.
BYU, a third seed in the Southeast region, and UNLV, an eighth seed in the Southwest, were at-large selections. The Cougars will face No. 14 Wofford, and the Rebels will meet No. 9 Illinois.
