Aztecs Getting Hero Treatment

The San Diego State University men's basketball team is having a helluva season. So much so, Sports Illustrated features the phenomenon happening on the Mesa.

The team, led by coach Steve Fisher, is poised for their first single-digit NCAA seed which could lead to the school's first March Madness victory, according to sportswriter Kelli Anderson.

Teammates share some unusual fan moments with the magazine including a standing ovation at the State Street Grill for center Brian Carlwell and a hug from a stranger for point guard DJ Gay in the parking lot of the Red Robin in Torrey Pines.

When talk comes around to the tournament, Fisher shares his optimism. "Why not us?" Fisher said to Anderson. "Really, why not us?"
