Aztecs to Face UCLA, Syracuse

The Aztecs will face challenging pre-conference schedule for 2012-2013 season

The San Diego State University Men's Basketball Team has set itself up with a very challenging pre-conference 2012-2013 schedule.

If successful, the Aztecs may well become a top 10 ranked team nationally.

In the games scheduled for the fall the team, under Steve Fisher’s guidance, will be facing tougher opponents in the hopes they’ll boost their long-term chances for the NCAA Tournament.

What may be the biggest surprise to the schedule is the contest with Syracuse. The men will face The Orange on a neutral court for The Battle on The Midway along San Diego’s Embarcadero Nov. 9. Tickets will be limited.

The Aztecs will face UCLA in the 19th Annual John R. Wooden Classic in Anaheim on Saturday, Dec. 1. You can get advance tickets to the game beginning Tuesday at 9 a.m. PT through the Aztec Athletic Ticket Office. Reserve tickets start at $30.

Other opponents include UC Santa Barbara and USC.

The team will also attend the 2012 Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii which could pit them against a field that includes Arizona, Indiana State, Hawai'i, Miami (Fla.), Ole Miss, San Francisco and Texas Tech.

The Aztecs, who finished the 2011-12 campaign with a 26-8 record, are coming off their fourth straight season with at least 25 victories and their third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

San Diego State is set to return four of its five starters and its top four scorers from this past season.
