2015 Amgen Tour of California Will Skip East Bay, Mount Diablo for First Time in 4 Years

The largest professional cycling event in the United States is returning next year for its 10th anniversary, but this time only one Bay Area city will be on the route.

The Amgen Tour of California begins May 10, 2015, in Sacramento. Stage 2 will take racers to Nevada City in the Sierra Foothills, then Lodi, before heading to San Jose.

Next year's race marks the first time in four years the East Bay and Mount Diablo won't have a major role in the event.

It also marks the expansion of the women's race to a four-day event.

"We had the women do their finals last year around the downtown,โ€ the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureauโ€™s Steve Hammond said. โ€œIt was one of the most exciting aspects of the entire day."

The men's race concludes in Pasadena on May 17.
