Padres Hire Assistant GM

The San Diego Padres have hired Jason McLeod as assistant general manager.

McLeod rejoins the Padres after serving in the Boston Red Sox scouting department for the last seven years. He joined the Red Sox in 2003 and was named to his most recent post as director of amateur scouting after the 2004 season, when Boston won the World Series.

He was hired by GM Jed Hoyer, who had been assistant to Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein before joining the Padres. McLeod started his front office career as an intern in the Padres' baseball operations department in 1994.

He is a former son-in-law of Padres chairman John Moores, who is in the process of selling the team to Jeff Moorad and his ownership group.
