3 Presidential Hopefuls Travel to San Diego for ALEC Conference

Three Presidential hopefuls are traveling to San Diego this week to take part in the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) Conference.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) will speak Wednesday, Mike Huckabee, former Arkansas governor and GOP presidential hopeful, will attend the meeting on Thursday and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) will speak on Friday.

Lawmakers and lobbyists will converge on downtown San Diego for meetings on public policy. Topics range from fiscal policy reform and e-commerce to environmental health and agriculture. A tour of the San Diego Port is also on the group’s three-day agenda.

All events will take place at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. The conference is not open to the public.

San Diego County Democratic Chair Francine Busby called the meeting “a ‘bill mill’ funded by corporations and billionaires.” Busby asked Mayor Kevin Faulconer not to take part in the conference.

Local democratic party members are organizing rallies to take place Wednesday in anticipation of some of the attendees and events.
