Gen. Petraeus Treated for Prostate Cancer

Treatment said to have been successful

America’s top military commander in the Middle East was successfully treated with radiation for early-stage prostate cancer earlier this year, The New York Times reported.

Gen. David H. Petraeus, the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan and who some consider a possible future GOP presidential candidate,  was treated for two months at Walter Reed Army Medical Center back in February, the military said in a statement.

President Obama and his team were informed of the diagnosis and treatment, which the military said took place as the general was in Washington for policy reviews.

He did not reveal the information because he and his family considered the cancer a private matter that did not affect his job performance at the time, according to the statement.
