Issa ‘Considering' Run for House Speaker

A San Diego-area congressional leader said he is considering a run for Speaker of the House Friday.

U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa appeared on MSNBC and CNBC Friday about the vacancy in the party’s leadership team.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy's sudden withdrawal from the contest Thursday stunned apparently everyone in the political establishment.

House Republicans pleaded with Rep. Paul Ryan on Friday to rescue them from their damaging leadership vacuum. But the GOP's 2012 vice presidential nominee showed little appetite for the prestigious yet thankless job of speaker of the House.

If the GOP can’t find a consensus candidate, then the party leadership should be reconfigured, Issa said in the interview that aired on CNBC’s Squawk Box.

“I said this morning I would consider. I am considering whether or not to put my name in the hat,” Issa said on CNBC Friday. “To be honest, I probably am better suited to be the Republican leader or the committee chairman.”
