Woman Beat Cabbie for Turning on Meter: Police

Police are asking for the public's help to locate a woman who allegedly assaulted a 70-year-old cab driver when he turned on the taxi's meter in New York City.

The woman got into the car at about 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 31 at the corner of 158th Street and Broadway and asked to be taken to Times Square.

By the time the taxi was in the vicinity of 56th Street and West Side Highway, the woman became irate that the driver had turned on the meter. She began to beat the driver and then fled the cab, police said.

The driver declined medical attention.

Anyone with information about the identity of the woman whose picture police released Saturday is asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
