Pilot Pulled From Dangling Plane After Crash Into Trees

A single-engine plane crashed Saturday in a patch of woods in Connecticut, but the Jersey City pilot escaped with minor cuts and bruises, authorities said.

Shirley Onacilla, 62, was treated at Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Center and released, police said.

The plane plummeted into a wooded area about 100 feet from a house in the town of Clinton. The crash happened at about 3 p.m.

Firefighters helped Onacilla out of the plane, which was hanging in a tree about 10 feet off the ground.

A homeowner who was chopping wood in his backyard heard the plane crash into the trees. He brought a ladder to the scene and spoke to the pilot, but waited for firefighters to pull her out of the aircraft.

Police were securing the scene overnight. FAA investigators were expected to arrive Sunday.
