Councilman Hit With Stun Gun, Arrested in TX Town Where Sandra Bland Arrested

A city councilman was hit with a stun gun and arrested in the same Texas city where Sandra Bland was arrested during a seemingly routine traffic stop, authorities said Friday.

Prairie View Councilman Jonathan Miller was stunned after allegedly resisting arrest, according to a Prairie View Police Department statement released Friday. The timing of the arrest wasn't specified.

Asked about witness accounts that apparently indicate that Miller did not resist arrest, Police Chief Larry Johnson said during a press conference on Friday: "We will do a complete investigation, we’re looking at all the facts surrounding that incident."

Johnson said the arresting officer had approached a group of men who were in a location where narcotics are normally sold, part of her normal routine. Miller allegedly refused to step back from officers after repeatedly being told to do so, authorities said. He was stunned r after physically resisting arrest, according to a release from the police department.

NBC affiliate KPRC reports that Miller was only asking why the men were being arrested, according to a witness.

Johnson also confirmed, when asked, that the arresting officer was involved in the Sandra Bland arrest, but did not say how. The arresting officer, a woman, has not been named.

Bland was pulled over by Trooper Brian Encinia, with whom she got into an argument over a lit cigarette, according to dashcam video released after she died while in Waller County Jail. Her arrest prompted a range of investigations into her arrest and incarceration.
