Child-Sized Coffin With Organs Inside Found on Philadelphia Street

Investigators believe the painted white coffin was built for a child around 1 years old

A child-sized coffin turned up in the middle of a North Philadelphia street with the organs of a small child or infant inside.

The grisly discovery was made around 9:15 p.m. Monday along Clearfield Avenue near N 30th Street, Philadelphia police said.

When officers opened the coffin they found a medical bag with what appeared to be organs inside. The medical examiner later confirmed that there were human organs, police said.

Investigators believe the painted white coffin was built for a child around 1 years old. They weren’t certain if the coffin was ever buried.

A cemetery is nearby but police didn’t find any immediate connection to the coffin. K-9 cadaver dogs would be used to search for any recently dug up graves, police said.

Detectives and the medical examiner conducted a joint investigation in hopes of unearthing more clues.
