Mission to Rescue Foley, Others in Syria Failed

The U.S. tried to rescue slain journalist James Foley and other American hostages in Syria recently, but its mission failed, officials told NBC News, one day after video was released showing Islamist extremist militants beheading Foley and threatening another journalist's life. A Pentagon spokesman gave few details about the mission, but said that air and ground components were involved and that a specific captor network within ISIS was targeted. The rescue mission failed, however, because the hostages weren't where planners had thought, officials said.
