Grandmother ‘Bugged' by Double Billing from Pest Control Company

A local woman said she hired a pest control company to get rid of ants around her house and the company billed her twice.

“One thing I have a history of is paying my bills,” Erma Richardson said.

That’s why Erma said she was upset when Terminex kept charging her for a bill she already paid.

In June, Erma planned a backyard barbeque for her daughter and six-month-old grandson. Worried about the bugs she sees around the house, she called a company named Antimite, now owned by Terminex, to spray her Stockton home.

“He sprayed inside and he sprayed outside,” Erma said.

Erma said she paid the worker that came to her door with a $225 check before he started the work. Weeks later, Erma said she received a bill in the mail for the $225 she had already paid.

Erma tried calling the company, explaining she had paid the bill on the day of the spraying, but the company continued to send Erma bills in the mail.

“I seen you on the news and I thought, ‘Oh he can help me,’” Erma said.

Erma called NBC 7 Responds and less than a few hours after we reached out to Terminex, the company contacted Erma to apologize for the mix-up and promised to straighten out the billing problem.

A spokesperson for Terminex told NBC 7 Responds there had been some account issues since acquiring Antimite and their internal systems showed Erma had paid the bill. Unfortunately, the spokesperson said, staff had not had a chance to notify Erma that her account was paid in full.
