Two rescued turtles now call San Diego their temporary home.
Comber and Tucker, two male turtles, were transported from Seattle Aquarium to SeaWorld San Diego's Animal Rescue Center on Thursday. The turtles will continue necessary rehabilitation care after being rescued up north.
Comber, a Pacific green sea turtle, was rescued on Vancouver Island in British Colombia in January while Tucker, a olive ridley sea turtle, was picked up in Oregon last December.
Both species are endangered.
The sea turtles rode in style to San Diego on a United States Coast Guard plane and landed at the Naval Base on Coronado before being shuttled to their new home.
Transferring turtles, like Comber, is no easy task as Pacific green sea turtles can grow up to 350-pounds. Tucker, the olive ridely turtle on the other hand, may only reach a maximum weight of 100-pounds.
Once the turtle’s rehabilitation is complete, SeaWorld will return them to their homes. Comber and Tucker could return to the ocean as early as this summer if all goes well.
