A 49-year-old man from Poway died Friday morning in a motorcycle accident, according to California Highway Patrol.

Eugene McCulloch, 23, from Camp Pendleton was driving his 2003 Nissan 350Z on northbound Interstate 5 near Basilone Rd. when the car drifted into the road median for unknown reasons. He lost control of the vehicle and hit a man riding a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The rider of the motorcycle was ejected and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision.

The accident caused a 30 minute delay in traffic and the backup extends from Basilone Rd. to the San Onofre Scale Facility.  Two of the lanes are closed on southbound I-5 and will reopen within the hour, according to CHP.
