1 Killed in House Fire in Encinitas

One person was killed in a fire that broke out at a home in Encinitas Friday night, deputies confirmed.

The fire sparked just after 8 p.m. at a home on the 400 block of Arroyo Drive, according to the Encinitas Fire Department.

After deputies arrived on the scene they received reports of a man trapped on the second floor. A responding deputy entered the structure to attempt to rescue him but was unable to access the second floor, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The person was later found dead, police said.

The deputy suffered smoke inhalation and was transferred to UCSD medical center for non-life threatening injuries and released Saturday morning.

SDSO Bomb Arson Detectives are investigating the cause of the fire.

Road closures were in place at the intersections of Ocean View Avenue and Arroyo Drive, and Sunset Drive and Ocean View Avenue, the SDSO said.

No other information was available.
