A Carlsbad train station has been closed after a man was struck and killed by a Pacific Surfliner train Saturday morning.
Carlsbad Village Station initially experienced major delays following the incident at 8:15 a.m., until North County Transit announced the station's closure two hours later.
The man jumped onto the railroad tracks and was hit by Pacific Surfliner Train 562 at the station on State Street, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
The train was traveling 72 miles per hour, deputies said.
Coaster services will not stop at the Carlsbad station, North County Transit said. Travelers are advised to board at Oceanside or Poinsettia for Coaster services.
Pacific Surfliner Trains 1767 and 792 will experience delays while authorities investigate the incident.
Train 1767 has been delayed following flash flood warnings in the area. Storm debris was reported on the tracks as crews investigate.
Some track damage was discovered during a Union Pacific Railroad inspection north of Ventura, causing Pacific Surfliner Trains 774, 763, and 1761 to be delayed pending repairs.
Additionally, Pacific Surfliner Train 1569 was cancelled for Saturday. The transit company recommended travelers take Train 1573.
