Yuma Police Officer Faces Multiple Felony Charges in San Diego

A Yuma police officer faces multiple felony sex crime charges in San Diego.

Jared Elkins, 33, faces nine counts including forcible rape, rape of an intoxicated person, forcible oral copulation and sexual penetration by use of force in connection with a September 14 incident, according to the criminal complaint.

Elkins pleaded not guilty to the charges according to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office.

He was out on bail with his next court date set for March 2018.

The 7-year veteran officer was on paid administrative leave according to a Yuma Police Department spokesperson.  

Records show Elkins was booked into jail after his arrest Sept. 15 in the Kensington area of San Diego. 

At the time of the incident, Elkins was off-duty, Yuma police told NBC 7. 

He was released on $100,000 bail the day after his arrest.
