“You Shot Me. You Killed Me”

A teen accused of killing her stepdad described his last moments to a detective after the slaying.

Brae Hansen, who was 17 in 2007 when Timothy MacNeil was shot to death, told Detective Maria Rivera she couldn't get MacNeil's last words out of her mind after the slaying. Hamsen and her brother Nathaniel Gann are accused of killing their stepfather.

MacNeil was shot four times. The final shot was to the back of his head, killing him, officials testified.

On Monday, jurors watched the videotaped exchange between the detective and Hansen. First, Hansen told Rivera she had just gotten home when MacNeil arrived. She said when she went downstairs, a man dressed in black was pointing a gun at MacNeil. Hansen said she was told to turn around while MacNeil was ordered to provide the combination to a safe.

The teen is then heard on the tape telling the detective she heard a struggle and then a shot.

"[He] said, 'You shot me. You killed me,' " Hansen said, weeping, to the detective.

The girl said those were her stepfather's dying words.

After Hansen's arrest, however, she allegedly told police that she and Gann had planned the murder.

Defense attorney Troy Britt said in his opening statement that Hansen made a terrible mistake plotting the killing but was unable to stop Gann from committing the crime afterward.
