For a 4th-place baseball team, the Yankees sure do generate a lot of hype.

Perhaps it's the 27 World Championships, or the 34 players wearing Yankee pinstripes in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Whatever the reason, nobody can deny, when the Yankees come to town, it's a whole new ball game.

A sold-out crowd packed Petco Park for New York's first visit to San Diego since 2002. It stated awfully pro-Yankee. It didn't stay that way for very long.

New York starter CC Sabathia struggled mightily in the Padres' 7-2 win. Sabathia walked in a run in the first inning, and had all kinds of trouble in the fourth.

Logan Forsythe lined a solo home run to left field, the 25th HR Sabathia has allowed this season (second-most in the majors), to put the Padres up 3-2.

Then Sabathia got Andrew Cashner to hit a soft liner to first base that would have ended the inning. However, CC neglected to do the one thing pitchers work on darn near every day of Spring Training. He didn't cover first base.

Cashner was safe on the infield single, and scored on Everth Cabrera's triple to put the Padres up 4-2. Cabrera went 4-for-5 and scored a run.

On the mound, Cashner threw seven innings of 2-run ball to get his eighth win of the year.

Jedd Gyorko and Will Venable added solo homers after Sabathia left the game.

On Saturday, the Padres send Tyson Ross to the mound against Ivan Nova. In his last outing, Ross threw eight shutout innings to beat the Diamondbacks in Arizona.
