Yacht Stuck Near Jetty

A crowd of people watched as salvage crews tried to retrieve a 60-foot pleasure boat stuck near a jetty in Oceanside Sunday.

The boat was having engine problems before it drifted into the jetty at the northern end of Harbor Beach Saturday night. By the next morning the boat had listed and sank in shallow water.

The Smooth Operator and its two passengers were helped by lifeguards who tried to drop the boat's anchor to keep it from smashing into the rocks.

Now, the salvage crew will try and refloat the boat and haul it out of the water. Because it's too damage to tow, a crane will likely have to pull it to shore, said Robert Butler of San Diego Vessel Assist. It will probably be at least Tuesday before a crane can be arranged to move the boat, Butler told the North County Times.
