The World Cup has brought soccer into the limelight for both adults and children alike.
In North County, the LA Galaxy San Diego Soccer League (an affiliate of the LA Galaxy team) has 2,500 children in its recreational soccer program and another 1,500 in its competitive soccer league.
The program hosts children ages 3-18 at the Aviara Community Park in Carlsbad.
Many kids in the soccer league are watching the games. Most told NBC 7 Monday that they want to be soccer players for professional teams when they grow up.
"It's fun playing," said 5-year-old Kenny. "I like making goals."
Kenny watched the World Cup with his parents. His favorite team is U.S.A. and he wants to be a soccer player when he is older.
Kailani, 9, is also watching the World Cup and hopes to compete in it one day herself.

"I want to be a professional soccer player and a teacher," said Kailani. "I like learning skills in soccer camp. I'm a midfielder."
But not all the kids at the camp want to be professional soccer players when they grow up.
"I want to be an astronaut," said 5-year-old Jackson on Monday. "Because moon rocks have magic!"
During the summer, the camp runs Monday through Thursday.
