Woman Gravely Injured in Assault at Hands of Little Brother Dies

An Escondido woman gravely injured in an alleged assault at the hands of her younger brother last weekend died Tuesday night, the Escondido Police Department confirmed.

EPD said the siblings were involved in a physical altercation during a family argument at a home on the 100 block of E. 15th Street just after midnight last Friday.

Laura Elizabeth Bautista, 27, was hospitalized. EPD did not specify her injuries but did say that she wasn't expected to survive.

The victim's 25-year-old brother, Jose Enrique Bautista, was arrested at the scene, EPD said.

Jose Bautista was facing attempted murder charges prior to his sister's passing.

A GoFundMe page set up on Laura Bautista's behalf said she left behind three children who are in need of emotional and financial support.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call EPD Detective Umstot at (760) 839-4463.
